Carving in wet wood - will the wood crack as it dries out? Dave Taplin
The wet wood was originally a slice of sycamore cut from a tree on Pontesford Hill that was felled in the spring. I then cut it in half as in the photo. To try to avoid splitting I made a design that utilised the curve of the wood and took out some of centre for the same reason. It was stored at first outside between working on it. In final sessions it did develop some minor stresses so that is why it is unfinished but sealed so i can come back to it in the future (maybe?!). My fault perhaps as I should have worked quicker .

Let's wait and see what happens to the carving
